From Raw Material to Finished Product

At Grand Union, we oversee every step of the production process to ensure the highest quality cashmere products. From sourcing rare raw materials to weaving the final garment, our commitment to excellence drives every decision.

Our journey begins with the exceptional rare white cashmere goats from the Heshan region. These goats thrive in the harsh climates of northern China, where their fine fleece is adapted to survive freezing winters. The unique “Xiangshan White” fleece, with its exceptional fineness (14.5 to 15.5 microns) and length (over 36 mm), is highly coveted in the industry. We carefully select the finest goats and maintain strong relationships with local herders, ensuring the sustainable, ethical harvesting of the finest raw materials. Grand Union purchases up to 600 tons of this high-quality fleece every year.

Cashmere Combing and Collection

The collection process, or “combing,” occurs in the spring when the goats shed their wool. This fine cashmere is carefully combed by hand or with specialized combing tools to ensure no damage to the fleece or goats. The harvested fleece is then gathered and transported to our factory.

Sorting & Washing

Once the fleece arrives at our facility, we first manually sort it to remove any coarse fibers, debris, and plant matter. This process is followed by machine sorting, which further separates the fine cashmere from coarser fibers. We then wash the cashmere in eco-friendly detergents to remove any residual oils, dust, or impurities.

Carding & Spinning

Our proprietary carding equipment carefully separates and aligns the fibers, ensuring the highest possible quality. We use advanced air-flow systems to ensure the fibers are aligned in parallel, achieving a smooth and uniform texture. After carding, the fibers are spun into yarn using the latest technology, ensuring minimal damage to the delicate fibers.

Dyeing

We use eco-friendly Lanacel dyes, meeting global environmental standards. The dyeing process is controlled by state-of-the-art technology that ensures precise water management, temperature control, and dye application, preserving the softness and luster of the fibers while achieving vibrant colors. Our facilities also include specialized areas for custom dyeing techniques such as tie-dye, stripe dyeing, and printing.

Knitting & Weaving

At Grand Union, we utilize German-made Stoll computerized knitting machines and Japanese warping machines to ensure precision in every stitch. Our state-of-the-art equipment allows us to produce a variety of designs, from fine-gauge knits to intricate patterns. We also maintain a separate scarf production line, with the capacity to produce 300,000 high-quality cashmere scarves annually. Our scarves are especially popular in Japan and Europe, where we offer both custom designs and a wide range of styles.

Final Products

Each product is rigorously tested for quality to ensure it meets our high standards. From luxurious cashmere sweaters to bespoke scarves, we combine craftsmanship with cutting-edge technology to create products that embody elegance and comfort. Our full range of offerings is available through OEM, ODM, and our own brand.
